A Full-Day Hiking Adventure on the Michinoku Coastal Trail – From Jodogahama to Kyukamura Rikuchu-Miyako (Round-trip from Morioka by Bus)
This is a one-day hiking course along the Michinoku Coastal Trail, starting from Jodogahama, one of the most iconic scenic spots in the Sanriku region, passing through Shiofuki-ana, and ending at Kyukamura Rikuchu-Miyako.
Travel from Morioka to Miyako by the 106 Express/Limited Express Bus, then take local buses from Miyako to Jodogahama and Kyukamura Rikuchu-Miyako. Enjoy the beautiful Sanriku coastline while hiking along the trail.
A special value ticket is also available, combining bus tickets with a “Hiker’s Certificate”, which provides various services at facilities along the route.

Michinoku Coastal Trail – A One-Day Journey –
From Morioka to Jodogahama: Discover the Spectacular Scenery of Sanriku
Morning: Depart from Morioka Station

Although the journey begins early in the morning, enjoy the scenery of Iwate from the bus window as you make your way toward the adventure ahead.

Jodogahama Visitor Center 10:33 arrival
After arriving in Miyako following a little over two hours by bus from Morioka Station, transfer to a local bus and continue on to Jodogahama.
Arrival at Jodogahama Visitor Center
After getting off the bus, you will arrive at the entrance to the trail, Jodogahama Visitor Center.
From here, your journey begins on foot as you experience the land of Sanriku firsthand.
Hike the Michinoku Coastal Trail (approx. 4 hours 30 minutes)
Jodogahama: One of Sanriku’s Most Iconic Scenic Spots
Jodogahama is one of the most spectacular scenic spots along the Sanriku Coast and is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. Its beauty has been compared to that of the Pure Land of Buddhist paradise.
White rhyolite rock formations rise from the sea, creating a striking contrast with the blue ocean and green pine forests.
Take your time and enjoy this breathtaking scenery, as if it were a landscape painting brought to life.
Shiofuki-ana: A Spectacular Natural Phenomenon
Continuing north from Jodogahama, you will reach Shiofuki-ana, a designated National Natural Monument and a geosite of the Sanriku Geopark.
Shiofuki-ana is a hole located above a sea cave formed by wave erosion. During large waves, seawater can shoot up through the opening to heights of up to 30 meters, creating a spectacular sight.
If you are lucky, you may witness this impressive natural spectacle.
Arrival at Kyukamura Rikuchu-Miyako
After a full day of adventure, you will arrive at Kyukamura Rikuchu-Miyako, the final destination of this course.
