Sanriku Event Information

Sanriku Disaster Risk Reduction & Reconstruction project (Miyako City)

Training for natural disasters, thanks for support and working towards further reconstruction. Between June 1st to August 7th there will be 22 different cultural, gourmet, sports and music events held in 13 towns on the Sanriku coast. In Miyako City the [All Iwate Festival] will be held on July 13~14th.

You can walk to the All Iwate Festival in Miyako on July 13~14th from Miyako Station (about 5 minutes walk)

Ryusendo Summer Festival (Iwaizumi town)

Held mid-July every year. There will be local gourmet, Iwaizumi BBQ corner, specialty goods sales, etc. There will be stage events, tree climbing, mazes and couples events being held.


Access information

From Miyako station, take Iwate Kenpoku Bus for 1hr 20minutes (bound for Iwaizumi Komoto Station) → Get off the bus at Iwaizumi Komoto Station and change to Iwaizumi Unyu Bus for 30 minutes (Bound for Iwaizumi Fire Brigade via Ryusendo) → Get off at Ryusendo stop.

Miyako Summer Festival (Miyako City)

Held at the end of July each year. This festival has been continued for over 50 years. The festival includes Mikoshi Floats and Tugboat parades. In mid August there is the fireworks festival held over the ocean.

From Miyako Station take Iwate Kenpoku Bus for 10 minutes to Gyokyobiru station, then walk 5 minutes.

Summer banya, Suppa Ship Festival (Tanohata village)

Held mid August every year. During the festival the Sappa ship bound for Kitayamazaki is free for children under 6, and you don’t need a reservation. You can also enjoy a one-coin Banya meal, making salt, peeling ascidian activity, or purchasing local produce.


Access information

From Miyako Station take Sanriku Rail for 50 minutes to Tanohata Station. Change to Kanko Noriai Taxi (reservation required) and drive to Tsukuehama Banyagun. It is located 5 minutes walk from here.

Miyako Autumn Festival (Miyako City)

Held middle of September each year. Watch the floats and colorfully dressed dancers parade through the city center. Enjoy the beat of the drums throughout the city.

Iwate Sanriku Yamada Festival (Yamada Town)

Held mid September every year. Watch the portable shrines be carried through the town. Seeing them cross the ocean is a particularly special sight. You can also enjoy local cuisine at the festival.

From Miyako Station take Iwate Kenpoku Bus for 55 minutes to Yamada Station. Walk about 5 minutes from here.

Miyako Sanma (Pike) Festival (Miyako city)

Set to be held in September 2019. This is an event to learn more about the pike that is caught in Miyako area. There is a free BBQ corner where you can cook the treasures of the ocean that you have purchased.

Ryusendo Autumn Festival (Iwaizumi Town)

Held every year in late September. Enjoy delicacies such as Iwaizumis' Matsutake mushrooms, Miyakos' Pike, and Yamadas' oysters. You can also enjoy rice cakes, tree climbing, and a special tour of the Ryusendo caves.

106 Express Bus Reservation

Seats are not pre-assigned. Please be sure to arrive at Miyako station/Morioka Station at least 5 minutes before departure time. Customers who have pre-reserved tickets will have priority boarding. (If arriving less than 5 minutes before departure priority boarding is not possible) Customers who haven't pre-reserved tickets will be able to board after priority boarding has finished, until bus capacity.

(Starting July 31st 2019)

All seats are reserved. Please reserve your seats online, or at the Morioka Station Front Bus Information Booth, Miyako Station Front Bus Information Booth, or at Jodogahama Park Hotel. If boarding from 「Prefectual Office City Hall」 or 「Yamabiko Sanchokukan」without pre-reserving your ticket, please receive your seat allocation from the driver.

Morioka Miyako 106 Express will have 1 return trip per day stopping at Jodogahama Park Hotel (Morioka Station Departing 13:15, Arriving at Miyako at 15:35 / Miyako Station Departing 9:10, Arriving at Morioka at 11:45)
